QS Sustainability Rankings: Huddersfield enters top 15 per cent in world

The University of Huddersfield has entered the top 15 per cent in the world in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 and is 19th in the world for Governance.
In the latest rankings covering all areas of sustainability, the University has jumped 43 places to 288 in the global rankings out of a total of 2,001 institutions.
In addition, Huddersfield is up ten places to 146 in the European rankings, making it now within the top quartile among institutions in Europe.
Improvements across multiple metrics
The rankings encompass three categories: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance, with eight performance lenses across these categories making up the QS Sustainability rankings.
In the latest results, Huddersfield has improved in eight of these 11 metrics, comprising Environmental Impact, Environmental Education, Social Impact, Equality, Health and Wellbeing, Knowledge Exchange, Impact of Education, and Governance.
The University is also in the top 200 in the world in three areas, placing 19th in the world for Good Governance, 140th for Equality, and 189th for Health and Wellbeing.

University of Huddersfield Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan, commented: “We're delighted with the improvement in the University's QS Sustainability ranking. Working with our many valued partners in the UK and internationally, it's great to see more recognition of the contributions which the University makes on this important agenda.”
These scores will contribute to the full QS World University Rankings for 2027, set to be released next summer.
The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability aim to provide students with information as to which institutions are demonstrating a commitment to a more sustainable existence.
The rankings evaluate the social and environmental impact of universities as a centre of education and research, as well as a major employer with the operational sustainability challenges of any large organisation.
Continued success
It follows the University’s success in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, released in June, where Huddersfield was ranked number one in the world for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities.
