Cutting edge British classical music showcased at Heritage Quay

The story of contemporary classical music in the UK since 1945 is under the spotlight at a new exhibition at Heritage Quay on the University of Huddersfield campus.
‘The Cutting Edge’ features photographs, scores, manuscripts, newspaper cuttings and programmes from four organisations that have supported the country’s new composers since World War II.
The Society of the Promotion of New Music, the British Music Information Centre, the Sonic Arts Network and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival have contributed to the exhibition, which runs until 12 January.
Find out about performances in venues from concert halls to night clubs, consider public responses to new sounds, and see the influence of technological development on music.
‘The Cutting Edge’ is the final piece in a series dedicated to our extensive music holdings programmed for Kirklees Year of Music.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 8am-7pm and Saturday 9am-5pm until 12 January (closed 22 December – 3 January). The exhibition is free, and Heritage Quay can be found at the heart of the University of Huddersfield campus.
