School of Computing and Engineering Hosts Research Festival

The University of Huddersfield’s School of Computing and Engineering came together on Monday 11th April for a Research Festival, celebrating the academic work and achievements within its research community.

The festival, which was open to all academics and researchers within the School, was the first formal opportunity in over two years for academic staff, research staff and postgraduate research students to come together and showcase current research being done within their fields.

The day began with an introduction from the School’s Dean, Prof. Stephen Donnelly, and Associate Dean (Research), Prof. Simon Iwnicki, followed by a keynote address from Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Prof. Andrew Ball.

Throughout the event, academics presented their work, with new findings and updates being presented by several of the School’s research groups and centres. Attendees also had the opportunity to share and view over 50 postgraduate research posters, following which they could vote for their favourite. The winning poster belonged to William Hastings, who was awarded a £100 Amazon voucher, with runners up Muhammad Ansari and Alan Pawlak receiving £50 vouchers each.

Simon Iwnicki said: “It was fantastic to be able to meet so many colleagues face to face again at the Research Festival and to see all the excellent presentations, which really showcased the wide range of world class research that is being carried out in our School and the impact that it is having. The presentations from the research groups and the posters from our research students demonstrated a huge enthusiasm for research in Computing and Engineering as well as some impressive new research facilities that are coming on stream. It’s clear that the School is in a very good position and that our research activity and our reputation will continue to grow.”
