Lean Construction in the Post-Pandemic World

On June 15, 2020, professor Lauri Koskela from the Innovative Design Lab was an invited speaker to the webinar Lean Construction in the Post-Pandemic World. This virtual event was organised by multiple institutions from Brazil, as a result of a combined effort between industry and academia, and had more than 350 online attendees at its peak. The event was moderated by professor Thais Alves from the San Diego State University (USA).

The webinar promoted a fruitful discussion on the post Covid-19 pandemic world and how Lean can help the construction industry to adapt to this new scenario. Prof. Koskela especially stressed insights triggered by the current pandemic: the humankind is not the Master of Nature – rather we are at the mercy of Nature; the assumption of stability in human affairs is an illusion – we are living in an uncertain and dynamic world. Our practical action needs to be aligned with these starting points.
