The Law School and Stowe Family Law LLP Strategic Collaboration

Stowe are by heritage a Yorkshire law firm. It is the UK's largest specialist family law firm, with 78 lawyers over their 22 offices nationwide. The firm's Huddersfield office takes the count to 7 offices in Yorkshire and is part of the firms commitment to continued expansion in the area. Stowe's are keen to develop and recognise young and up-and-coming talent across Yorkshire as they will be the next generation of lawyers.

The Law School & Stowe Family Law LLP are working together in a collaboration, geared towards helping university law students to progress in the field.
Stowe Family Law

The strategic collaboration with The Law School will provide students with advice from a senior family solicitor in their Huddersfield team, on divorce, financial relief and child matters, the attributes a family solicitor needs to succeed and the culture at Stowe. To demonstrate Stowe's commitment to the University and their students, work experience will also be awarded to the highest achieving student on the MLP Family Law module.

The University's family law module closely matches Stowe's core service areas of divorce and civil partnership dissolution, financial remedy, cohabitation and children law.

Stowe love interacting with students and giving something back to future generations of lawyers.I am looking forward to meeting with the students to talk about my experiences throughout my career as a paralegal, trainee and then the day-to-day life as a family law senior solicitor. Family law can be an emotive area, but it is highly rewarding. I hope that this collaboration will help students to learn more about the practice of family law and to consider whether they have the attributes and the passion for the subject that is required to succeed in this area. The work experience placement will be a brilliant and valuable opportunity for the highest achieving student to boost their CV and to put their knowledge into practice."

Maria Coster, Stowe Family Law

Students complete core and elective modules at university and it is a challenge for students to sample different areas of law before they are required to select a career path, both in terms of which firms to apply to and then what seats to complete on their training contract. Each law firm and area of law are unique. It is helpful for students to have experienced as many areas of the law as possible before choosing a firm, and ultimately a specialism.  Stowe's focus upon family law and their collaboration with the students (particularly the work experience placement), will provide the students with a real insight into family law within private practice, and will hopefully assist them to make informed choices about their futures.

We are very excited about this new partnership which will really benefit our students. We are grateful for the offer of a work experience placement for the highest achieving student on the MLP Family Law module, which will be a real incentive for the students."
