Inclusion by Design

Wellbeing and Disability Services is seeking colleagues involvement in piloting a new approach towards Inclusion by Design through the existing validation/re-validation processes scheduled for the remainder of this academic year.

Through collaborative work with colleagues in the Schools, our aim is to first fully understand the validation and revalidation process from an academic perspective, ensuring that any support or advice that is offered on approaches to Inclusive practice is provided on the basis of a sound knowledge of the course content and learning outcomes as well as any professional body considerations.

The range of initiatives highlighted at the Teaching and Learning Conference in September demonstrates that there is already a wide range of innovative approaches towards Inclusive Practice contained within existing curriculums and we want to support colleagues to build on this. By embedding Inclusive Practice at the design and validation stage, significant savings in staff time and resources can be made where the need to introduce ah-hoc reasonable adjustments at a later stage is reduced as much as possible.

To celebrate International Day of Persons With Disabilities on Monday 3 December, we will be hosting an information stall in the Schwann Building Atrium (outside the Library) from 11.00am-3.00pm. Please feel free to drop by with any queries or thoughts you have in regards to disability and inclusion.

If you would like to be part of this innovative approach towards Inclusive Practice at the University or would like more information on how the service will work with staff on this project, please contact either Dr Gary McGladdery (Disability and inclusion Manager) or Sharon Morgan (Senior Disability Adviser and Projects Officer).
