Be safe on and off campus

During your time at Huddersfield, it’s really important that you feel safe and secure, both on and off campus.
That’s why we have a dedicated security team, including an onsite police officer, who work hard to ensure it’s a safe place to study, work and socialise.

24/7 Security Hub
The Security Hub is located at main reception in the Harold Wilson Building, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is always open and available to students and staff. Main responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring CCTV and regular patrolling, to maintain a security presence on campus
  • Out of hours access to students and visitors
  • Point of contact relating to security on campus e.g. suspicious activity, lost/found property etc

The Security Hub is located in Harold Wilson Reception and is open 24/7

 

Security Services Manager


Martin Falsey, Security Services Manager for the University, has over 25 years’ security and policing experience; working as a Royal Air Force Provost Officer, serving in the UK and worldwide. Additionally, as Security Manager for a UK utility company and Chair of UK Security & Emergency Planning Network.
Martin and his small team know that feeling safe and secure on Campus is really important to both students and staff. Martin is always keen to receive ideas about how we can improve security on Campus, as well as to receive feedback on any security related concern staff or students may have.

Safer Student Police Officer
PC Phil Hardy, Safer Student Police Officer, His role is to aid keeping you safe by offering crime prevention advice and safety tips, either on a one to one basis or in group. He can also support you with any organised events which would benefit from a police presence.

You are encouraged to report any suspicious activity/concerns to Phil.
If you wish to report a crime that doesn’t require an immediate response, call 101 at any time or go to www.westyorkshire.police.uk/reportcrime.
Please contact 999 in the case of an emergency.
Phil generally works Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm and his office is in the Atrium, level 4, Schwann Building.
Phil said: “It doesn’t matter how small, or how big your concerns are, I am here to help. If you spot anything suspicious or feel you need the advice of a police officer I’d like to hear from you”.
