Managed Work Placements
We are committed to maintaining strong links with industry and in providing a professional learning experience for our students that focuses on preparing you for careers in your chosen discipline. Our full-time undergraduate courses* offer the option of a placement year in industry.
The main objective of a placement is to provide students with an opportunity to apply skills acquired during year one and year two of your degree to practical problems in real-life situations. During the placement year students will have the opportunity to gain useful skills which could improve employment prospects upon graduation.
During a placement, students will have the opportunity to:
- gain invaluable skills that could help them to become more employable at the end of your degree.
- experience the realities of working and apply some of the theories taught at University.
- develop relationships with employers and employees who may be able to assist with your degree and job searching.
- appreciate the operational skills required to make a business successful and have the ability to work as an effective team member.
- use and further develop the skills they already have.
- return to University with more experience, theories, strengths and ideas.
* Pharmacy MPharm has integrated placement days throughout the course.
* A year’s industrial work experience forms a mandatory component of the following courses: Chemistry with Industrial Experience MChem (UCAS code F101), Forensic and Analytical Science with Industrial Experience MSci (UCAS code FF41).
* The following courses offer an alternative year’s research experience within one of our academic research groups: Chemistry MChem (UCAS code 7X66), Forensic and Analytical Science MSci (UCAS code 68F6), Pharmaceutical Chemistry MSci (UCAS code B203).
