The University of Huddersfield is proud of its significant contribution to global research. The University is internationally renowned for its research in several important fields of research from engineering to health, music, and applied sciences.
Our researchers are collaborating with institutions from all corners of the globe, including many of the world’s most prestigious institutions. Over the last five years for example, we have jointly published with 87% of the top 100 highest ranked universities in the world according to the QS and THE World University Rankings.

Global community
The University has a vibrant global community, with 3,300+ international students and over 100 represented nationalities. Connected through more than 60 global societies, cultural events, festivals, and celebrations such as Global Week and Lunar New Year.
The University welcomes a diverse environment where cultures are shared, and enrich the university experience through activities, and support tailored for international students.

Sustainable development goals (SDGs)
We are actively embedding the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across all aspects of university life. From teaching and learning and student engagement to research and external partnerships, the University of Huddersfield is dedicated to making a positive impact locally, nationally and globally.
Reduced Inequalities
We’re ranked 1st in the world for Reduced Inequalities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for 2025, reflecting the work of our university to widen opportunities for students from all backgrounds, both within the UK and around the world.

SDG 1: No Poverty
See our work to widen participation and challenge poverty including offering scholarships for undergraduate international students, support to students from low and low-middle income countries, and our poverty-focused research project: Trade Forest Products in SW Ethiopia.

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Explore our work to extend opportunities in affordable and clean energy including research conduction by the EEERG for a micro-hydropower generation research project for Nigeria and assistance to low carbon innovation with Kibabii University and Carbon Footprint Ltd in Kenya.

SDG 13: Climate Action
Discover our work including our Ten-Point Climate Action Plan, our support in the D2L Sustainability Roundtable, sharing and co-creating best practices for embedding climate education in teaching and learning and our Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction project in Sri Lanka.
