Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre 1st Anniversary Celebrations

Join us on Sunday 15th September to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of The Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre. Spend some time exploring the exhibition, find out more about the work we do at the Centre and enjoy a drink in our pop-up cafe. The exhibition is free to visit and will be open from 11am – 4pm.

On the same day we will be holding a ticketed event with Barbara Winton, the daughter and biographer of Sir Nicholas Winton who organised a Kindertransport that rescued 669 Czech Jewish children from the Nazis. She will be joined by Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, one of the children rescued by Winton in 1939. For information and to book tickets for this event, visit www.holocaustlearning.org.uk/events.

Lady Milena escaped Czechoslovakia in 1938 on a Kindertransport arranged by Sir Nicholas Winton, a British humanitarian who helped save 669 children from the Holocaust. Milena will be joined by Barbara Winton, the daughter of Sir Nicholas, who will share her father’s remarkable story of helping those children whose lives were at risk.

Sir Nicholas Winton supervised the rescue of 669 mainly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. The final transport of 250 children was due to leave Prague on 1st September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland, but was stopped by the Germans. All those on board were subsequently killed during the Holocaust.

Lady Milena and Barbara will share the stage, telling their individual family stories and reflecting on how they can inform our response to the present day refugee crisis.
