Management MSc (Distance Learning)
Shydeka is studying for her Management MSc at the University of Huddersfield while living in the United States, balancing fulltime work and her family life through flexible online study.
My distance learning journey
"I chose the Management MSc course because of the flexibility and after doing a lot of research, the reputation of the university and support is what made me apply. With a busy work schedule, family commitments, and personal responsibilities, studying online in the evenings and at weekends was the only realistic way for me to achieve my goals."
The work–life balance and flexibility are the most rewarding benefits of studying remotely
The work–life balance and flexibility that come with remote study have genuinely transformed how I’m able to learn. As a full‑time working professional and parent, I value flexibility, it allows me to weave my studies around my career and family life instead of fitting it around a timetable.
When I discovered timeboxing and time blocking, I began using these techniques in my daily routine, and they completely transformed my productivity. I found myself getting more done, staying focused, and completing tasks on schedule.

I was worried about returning to study, but the support made it easy
I was really worried about returning to study after so many years, but the course materials are easy to follow, and whenever I need help, my classmates and professors are always available through email or the community chat.
My professor has been incredibly supportive. The teaching is superb, and the content is easy to understand. Whenever I need extra clarity, my professors are always easy to reach, and they’ve consistently gone out of their way to help. The live sessions also make a huge difference, offering guidance and walking us through the material step by step.
Distance Learning has made the transition to returning to study a lot easier. As I work a hybrid schedule, I use my calendar to block out study time: one hour before work, an hour during lunch, and two hours in the evenings. I’ve also created a quiet, distraction‑free study space at home. On the days I’m required in the office, I arrive early enough to fit in my morning study block. It took discipline at first, but with consistency it became easier every week.
Choosing the Management MSc felt like the right step
I first learned through an online community that this accredited university offered the Performance Based Admissions (PBA) route, and the cost fit comfortably within my budget. Since I’m working toward a director‑level role in Human Resources and potentially furthering my education so I can teach in the field, choosing the Management MSc felt like the right step. It gives me the skills and knowledge I need to progress in my career and move closer to my goals.
I look forward to graduating with my classmates
To stay connected with other students, I’ve used the discussion boards and the Slack messaging system, and I’ve even recently connected with fellow students in my area to exchange ideas and support. I look forward to graduating with my classmates and meeting them in-person at the ceremony next year!
