About:
I'm a Professor of Investigative and Forensic Psychology. I've been a Researcher, Lecturer and Practitioner in the field of Psychology for over 25 years. I've considerable experience in exploring offender and victim profiles and have been involved in the assessment and development of intervention programmes for reducing/preventing crime for various forms of criminality and groups of offenders and ‘at risk’ individuals as well as impact delivery. I've delivered a variety of courses to professionals as well as applied research, case reports and consultancy projects to police, government authorities, intervention agencies and other public bodies and has contributed to various legal cases. I've been invited to train law enforcement and security personnel and give lectures and seminars in several countries in Europe, the Middle East, and South East Asia. I've an extensive publication record, and media experience across all platforms appearing on CNN and BBC radio and my work has been presented nationally and internationally.
At the University of Huddersfield, I am the Course Leader for the MSc Investigative Psychology and MSc Security Science, Director of the Cyberpsychology Research Network and ex-director of the Secure Societies Institute. I sit on various committees and boards and I'm an Advisory Scientific Council Member for the Institute on Crime and Criminal Justice Policy, European Public Law Organisation (EPLO).
Research interests:
My research interests include but are not limited to offender profiling, modelling of offending styles and offender types for various crime types including violent and sexual crime, terrorism, vulnerability, personality, wellbeing, cyberpsychology – the impacts of technology, especially the Internet and social media on users and human behaviour.
