Lemn Sissay found his voice through Poetry
09:30 - 10:30, 10 January 2017
At University of Huddersfield - Canalside West
One of the most celebrated poets Lemn Sissay MBE is returning to the University of Huddersfield to give a special lecture as part of the 3rd Annual ‘Finding a Voice’ conference on Tuesday 10 January 2016.
The lecture will be an opportunity to hear how Lemn found his voice through poetry. Finding a voice with children and young people will resonate with your professional interests and career development needs. It will also blend relevant concepts with examples from day-to-day practice and gives an opportunity for you to offer insights from your own experience.
The lecture will be given as part of an innovative teaching and learning experience for final year students on the BA(Hons) Childhood Studies course. As part of a module called Finding a Voice: Children and Young People, students will present a wide range of papers at the conference.
This module is centred on a study of theories and models of voice particularly in conjunction with the UN convention on the rights of the Child: Article 12. In addition to relevant theory we will consider factors such as supporting children and young people to be heard, ethics and culture, international perspectives and many more.
