Centre for Visual and Oral History Research
The Centre for Visaul and Oral History Research has developed relationships with various external organisations through both the funding and impact of its work. Research grants have been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Museums and Libraries Association, and both organisations have subsequently featured COHR projects at promotional events and on their websites.
Collaborations with external organisations engaged in the promotion of culture and education in the public sphere have provided effective ways to develop the impact of the Centre’s work whilst also supporting the aims of its partners. Mutually beneficial relationships have been formed with the National institute for Continuing Adult Learning, Culture24 and the Friends of Greenhead Park.
The public engagement rationale behind key aspects of the Centre’s work has also enabled it to develop strong partnerships with various local schools. Centre staff have provided knowledge and equipment to empower pupils to participate in gathering memories of the past and promote intergenerational learning. These oral testimonies have then been made available through websites and books and entered into the University archives to provide material for further research work.
The Centre also has strong links with the Oral History Society. Clare Jenkins and Steve Kelly are both regional organisers and oral history trainers for the Yorkshire region.
