International Institute for Accelerator Applications

Our research environment

Our laboratories at Huddersfield are home to the cutting edge equipment we need to remain at the top of our field of research, including

An EBIS ion source

High current Implanters, and the MEIS facility (originally from Daresbury).

In addition to our on campus facilities, we also carry out some of our research at other international centres of research excellence, including the LHC in Geneva and the ESS in Lund.

The Institute is guided by a six-person Science Advisory Board, which meets annually. The members are:

  • Professor Nick Brook, University College London
  • Trevor Cross, E2V Ltd
  • Professor Neville Harnew, Oxford University
  • Dr John Jowett, CERN
  • Professor Stephen Peggs, BNL
  • Professor Susan Smith STFC Daresbury Laboratory
