Elizabeth is happy to supervise students undertaking an MA by Research, and co-supervise PhD students interested in exploring collaborative practice from a theoretical point of view as part of a composition or performance portfolio. More specifically Elizabeth is interested in supervising work that:

For example:

  • Research exploring collaborative process in performance/composition/multi-disciplinary contexts.
  • Research that investigates socially situated creativity within new music.
  • Research investigating undergraduate creative or co-creative processes.
  • Research that seeks to learn more about collaborative growth through long-term collaborative relationships between specific practitioners.
  • Work that investigates relationships between discourse and co-creative practice.

Prior supervision – Elizabeth helped to supervise Heather Roche who completed her PhD entitled: Dialogue and collaboration in the creation of new works for clarinet.

Harry Boam MA by Research: An autoethnographical self-case study analysing the mediating factors affecting creative sound work within a professional context.

Peter Goosey MA by Research: This research is concerned with addressing several audio-visual immersion theories and the impact of music in video games.

Enterprise Activities

2012 I set up a multidisciplinary collaboration group called CollabHub to help students from different disciplines meet and work together. 

This group has provided regular networking and pitch/make meetings, plus an annual symposium for the benefit of current students, alumni and local people interested in collaboration. It won £5k from social enterprise organisation UnLtd 

2015 I started the Yorkshire Sound Women Network. 

Our mission is to inspire and enable more women and girls to explore sound and music technology. The full website provides details on our working group, mission, past and future workshops, agenda and also feedback. Since the first meeting on July 14th 2015, on Feb 19th 2016 we will have have delivered 9 public workshops (with 161 places) and many more are scheduled for 2016 already. This organisation is starting to have significant impact on learning and opportunity for women in a field where women are under represented. To receive updates please join the mailing list here
