Biography

Qualifications: BA(Hons), PGCE, MA, PhD, FHEA

Shamim is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Education. He is the author of two books:  Muslims, Schooling and the Question of Self-Segregation (Palgrave) and Muslims and the Question of Security: Trojan Horse, Prevent and Racialised Politics (Palgrave). Shamim’s research focuses on the framing of race, religion in educational policy. His research interests draw upon both empirical and also theoretical approaches to the study of public policy. He draws upon Critical Race Theory and also Post-Colonial theory to shape his theoretical world-view. He has also contributed towards chapters in books, reports and also various peer reviewed journals. Shamim was the  co-SIG convenor (Race and Ethnicity) for BERA (British Educational Research Association (2013-2016).  Shamim is also a research-fellow at The Center for Postnormal Policy and Futures Studies (CPPFS).

  • Trojan Horse Saga, Muslims and Securitsation 
  • Prevent policy, Muslims and Schooling 

Shamim is also involved in a long term project on the sociological writings of the medieval Muslim philospher, historian and sociologist - Ibn Khaldun (d. 1406).
