The purpose of the University's Occupational Health service is to provide a professional, effective and efficient resource which is proactive in the promotion of the health and well-being of physical and mental health of staff and students in relation to their work or studies.
The Occupational Health team will assist in the identification, development, implementation, monitoring and review of strategies for the delivery of occupational health services across the University.
It is not a replacement or substitute for the services provided by General Practitioners or other specialists and any treatments or prescription requirements remain their responsibility, not that of the Occupational Health service.
The team take an impartial view and remain objective in the advice given to employers, workers, academic staff and students.
Any information that is held by the University of Huddersfield Occupational Health Department regarding an individual is retained in strict confidence within the Occupational Health Department. Any information held by the Occupational Health Department regarding an individual will not be released to a third party without the informed written consent of the individual concerned.
Appointments for employees are normally made following receipt of a referral from the indivdiual's manager. Health surveillance appointments are made directly with the individual following notification by their line manager that they require a health surveillance appointment. The Occupational Health Department will contact the individual with routine health surveillance review appointments when appropriate.
Appointments for students are either made through a referral by their course leader or in the case of vaccination/blood test appointments made directly with the Occupational Health Department when appropriate
