The 5th Workshop On TEM With In Situ Irradiation (WOTWISI-5)

09:00, 11 April 2018 - 17:00, 13 April 2018

At University of Huddersfield

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with in situ irradiation using ions and/or electrons is a powerful technique allowing the direct observation of the dynamic microstructural evolution of radiation damage. There are currently around 13 facilities globally which offer TEM with in situ ion irradiation plus two with in situ focused ion beam (FIB) milling and a small number of high-voltage TEMs. Furthermore, at least two new TEMs with in situ ion irradiation are currently under construction in the USA and China. The WOTWISI series brings together the users and operators of these facilities to share the latest scientific results and techniques in this highly specialised field.

Abstracts are invited on the application of TEM with in situ irradiation in fields including nuclear energy, nanostructures, semiconductors and materials in extraterrestrial environments. We also welcome technical talks on the design and construction of these facilities and their combination with other complimentary in situ environments and characterisation techniques.

The University of Huddersfield is home to the Microscopes and Ion Accelerators for Materials Investigations (MIAMI) facilities including MIAMI-1 which was launched at the first WOTWISI event in June 2008. A state-of-the-art new facility, MIAMI-2, has now been constructed which significantly enhances and expands the experimental possibilities at Huddersfield making the University the ideal venue for the return of WOTWISI to the UK for its 5th event.
