Huddersfield Business School is delighted to be a partner member in the Kirklees Top 100 Initiative which celebrates the success of companies and organisations in Kirklees. These companies are key to making the region a rich and diverse hub of economic activity.

Professor Jill Johnes, Dean - Huddersfield Business School

The Kirklees Top 100 Companies is a joint venture between the University of Huddersfield, Kirklees Council, the Huddersfield Examiner and the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, and sponsored by Cityfibre, to help raise the profile of Kirklees’ businesses and the district as an attractive destination for inward investment, business start-up, scale-up and growth.

The format uses a consistent set of metrics to establish the rankings of the Kirklees Top 100, through a combination of turnover, profit, employee numbers and growth, based on the methodology used by the York Top 100 which inspired this initiative. This enables an objective method of producing the listing from publicly available information from company accounts. Businesses must have a registered office in Kirklees.

The Kirklees Top 100 Companies list will be produced and published annually during Huddersfield Business Week every Autumn to gauge business growth across the region.

Since its launch last year, the initiative has helped strengthen bonds within the Kirklees business community through collaborative opportunities and sharing best practice. It has also been used as a platform to inspire training and careers opportunities for young people, as well as brought together a Talent Group of HR professionals to compare notes on hybrid working, apprenticeships and graduate development.

New features for this 2021’s Kirklees Top 100 include a spotlight on innovation and the most innovative companies in the district, judged by the key partners, as well as local companies that are championing sustainability across their businesses in the year of the COP26 Summit.
