At Huddersfield Business School we use a wide variety of teaching methods to help you learn - from traditional lectures, to interactive seminars and workshops and practical computer-based sessions which allow you to put your new skills in practice. You might have the chance to use our state-of-the art trading room. Throughout your study with us, you will build up your academic skills and professional skills – helping you to advance your knowledge the contemporary business world, thinking critically, and become adept beign able to use different resources. We believe that learning takes place in a social environment, so we make a lot of use of working together with our subject experts and your fellow students. 

 

Online resources

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we developed new ways of supporting teaching and learning. Our staff developed invested substantially in developing a rich online learning environment which we now use to supplement your on-campus experience. You can meet your tutors for online meetings if you can’t get onto campus and our Virtual Learning Environments are designed to help you study at your own pace. You can use the discussion boards to chat with your tutors and other students so you can get just the right support for you. Many of our assessments now take advantage of technology and will help you prefer for the online environment of organisations.

We use a range of technologies support your learning.  Every module has a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment site using the Brightspace platform and most of our lectures are recorded so you can revisit your class to refresh your memory and take learning at your own pace. 

 

Guest speakers

We like to support our classroom learning with guest speakers from industry and professional bodies so you can hear directly how the knowledge and skills you are learning can be applied in the real world. We also provide a wide range of opportunities to take part in field trips. There are other opportunities to engage in learning, through societies such as Journal Club or our student societies. 

 

Our teaching staff

We make sure that you are taught be subject experts. All of our teaching staff are involved in research activities, so they are responsible for creating knowledge as well as teaching. All of our staff Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (or in the process of becoming fellows).

 

Library resources

Our library provides another great place to study with all the resources you need to hand, from the books on the shelves to the full array of electronic sources that will give you access to the latest company information or recent journal articles. We have dedicated academic librarians who will help you find just what you are looking for.

 

Assessment

We pride ourselves developing assessments that will keep you interested in your learning and stretch you achieve your best.  Many of our assessments have real world relevance and have been carefully designed to develop the skills you need. Examples of assessments are portfolios, reports, completion of practical work, exams, in class quizzes, reflections and essays. You might be involved in writing a blog, recording a video or making a presentation to a business client – all great skills to be able to take to the workplace. We will provide you with the feedback on your work to help you hone your skills and knowledge.
