In 2014 we received a 4 star rating in an international higher education benchmarking exercise, achieving world leading 5 star ratings for teaching, internationalisation, facilities and access.
The QS Stars system evaluates universities against a range of important performance indicators:
The University was awarded the highest international 5 star rating for teaching with two areas of strength including overall student satisfaction and satisfaction with teaching. Teaching and learning underpins the University’s strategy and we were proud to become the first university in the country where all teaching staff have been awarded professional recognition by the Higher Education Academy.
Employability was also recognised as an area of strength for the University, scoring the maximum ratings available for graduate employability rate and for careers service support. The University offers professional work experience to students in 100% of courses offered and we recognise the importance for students of gaining experience in the ‘real world’ during their time with us. The University achieved a top 5 star rating in the Internationalisation category and we performed well in the area of institutional research collaborations, inbound exchange students, international students, religious facilities and international diversity.
We achieved the top rating in the facilities category, providing students with a superb learning environment. The University scored the maximum number of points available for sporting facilities, IT infrastructure, medical facilities and student societies.
The University excelled in the area of access, achieving the maximum 5 star rating. This category considered scholarships and bursaries, disabled access, gender balance and low-income outreach and was seen as a key factor for the QS star rating; ‘For a university aspiring to become truly world-class, its mission and its impact must extend further beyond the basics’.
