The remarkable life and career of Professor Xiangqian Jiang – known as Jane – has led to her being created a Dame in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours. It is a reward for her global reputation in metrology – the science of measurement – plus her contribution to British-based engineering and advanced manufacturing.
Music technologist award maintains Huddersfield’s top position
Senior Lecturer in Music Technology, Dr Elizabeth Dobson, has been awarded a 2017-18 National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). She is the 15th University of Huddersfield academic to receive one of the fellowships since 2008. This cements Huddersfield’s position as the university that has won the most Teaching Fellowships over the last 10 years.
Business School wins award for 'Best Student Placement Service
The Business School Placement Unit has been named the Best University Placement Service in the 2017 National Undergraduate Employability Awards. It is the only award to celebrate excellence among providers of undergraduate work experience.
Top award for ground-breaking drug analysis technique
Research on a ground-breaking new technique for drug analysis has earned scientist Dr Mohammad Usman Ghori a top award at an international conference. Researchers at the universities of Cambridge and Oxford took second and third places. Dr Ghori has been working on the use of an ultra-high resolution atomic force microscope (AFM), a technique that achieves greater accuracy and analytical power than existing methods of chemical mapping.
Professor conferred Fellow of Academy of Social Sciences
Professor Paul Miller, has become a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. His Fellowship recognises his expertise on the subject of educational leadership, in particular the discrimination faced by black and ethnic minority teachers when they aspire to leadership roles in UK schools.
