The Library

The library here is vast – you’ll need a guided tour to ensure you get the most out of it – and we’ll arrange one of those for you during your first weeks here.

Whether you want to borrow a text book to help you with your next assignment, use a computer in peace and quiet, search the online databases for information, or join up with friends from your course to work on a project, the library has what you need.

The Queensgate library is open seven days a week in term time  – and computers are available 24 hours a day throughout most of the year, so you can study early or late if that suits you better.  You can check out books, and return them, using our electronic systems, and you can get help from our specialist library and IT staff.  You can also keep a check on what you’ve got on loan via our app which you can download to your smartphone.

You’ll love our library staff. Take Dave, our Library Systems Manager. In 2010 he won the title of Information Professional of the Year in the annual Information World Review awards. Previously a student here, Dave’s made lots of radical changes to the library. “I wanted to make the library catalogue system a bit more ‘Amazon-y’ to move it away from being like a stock inventory and become more of a useful tool for students”. So he did. And it works brilliantly.

Need to reserve a book?

We have a fantastic system where you can reserve books online – this will save you scrapping it out with your fellow students for the last copy of that all important text book as shown in this student produced video:
