What’s the best thing about Huddersfield? Probably the fact that everyone you ask will have a different answer! Huddersfield is a very big town with a city feel. Arguably the biggest town in Europe, it attracts a lot of culture and plays host to a number of big events, some world-renowned, each year. With approximately 1 in 6 of the town’s population being students, it’s no wonder there is always something exciting happening here.
One of the first things you will notice when entering Huddersfield is the stunning Victorian architecture that surrounds you. In fact, Huddersfield has the 3rd highest number of listed buildings in the country. As you’re kicking back and enjoying the atmosphere of this buzzing town, it is worth at least being aware that some of these buildings have stood for hundreds of years. A quick glance to the hills around the town will reveal the landmark Victoria Tower at Castle Hill, built in 1899 and an excellent place to wander up to during warm weather for the exercise and the views!
In amongst the beauty of the Yorkshire setting, you can happily spend the day shopping at all the High Street names you will be familiar with. If curios and knick-knacks are more your bag (or budget), then take a trip down some of the many interesting side-streets or browse any of the towns standing markets.

Boutique shops are threaded throughout Huddersfield’s side-streets and avenues.
A quick look at the events list for Huddersfield is inspiring. From the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival to International Food Fairs to the Huddersfield Literature Festival and beyond to the Festival of Light…your calendar will never be empty.
If clubbing is your thing then there is a range of nightclubs and venues to complement the more intimate bars and pubs. You can spend all night wandering merrily around and soaking up the different vibes without tiring yourself out by walking for miles to get to the best places. You don’t need to worry about a night out costing you the Earth either as it’s commonly held that Huddersfield is a great place to live a wealthy lifestyle on the cheap!

If you’re after the really big clubs or certain exclusive shops, then Leeds and Manchester are less than an hour’s direct train journey away. With excellent transport facilities connecting Huddersfield to the major cities in the region, it really is the ideal place to live and learn.
