Financial help for parents in higher education
Full-time undergraduate home students with children may qualify for extra financial help on top of the standard student finance package. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to get:
- Childcare Grant for help with childcare costs
- Parents' Learning Allowance to help towards course costs such as books, materials and travel
Any payments received under these arrangements do not have to be paid back.
Childcare Grant and Parents' Learning Allowance
If you qualify, the Childcare Grant could cover as much as 85% of your childcare costs during term time and holidays – up to a maximum of £174.22 per week if you have one child, or £298.96 per week if you have two or more children. The amount of grant available will depend on the actual costs of your childcare and your household income.
The Parents' Learning Allowance could give you up to £1,766 for 2020/21. How much you get depends on your household income.
