Students' Union

The Students’ Union is the beating heart of the University.  It exists to represent, support and advise you on all aspects of your time at university.  Far beyond that though, it is your opportunity to have a real say in the things that affect your daily life as a student.  You can get as involved as you want; watching bands in the bar, just by hanging out with friends, hosting a radio show, writing for the student paper, volunteering, joining a sports team or society or even running for election in the second term to one of the Executive Committee posts available.

Freshers’ week is the start of University life for many undergraduates. Most students arrive at University not really knowing many people which can be a little daunting. Freshers’ week is here to help you settle in quickly at the University of Huddersfield and to help you find your feet. You will also meet lots of people just like you! You can find out more by watching the award-winning video produced by the Students’ Union.

The Student’s Union building is located centrally on the main Queensgate campus.  It’s an ideal location to pop in at any time of day or night.  There are 3 places to eat and drink in there.  Situated upstairs in the Students' Union, the Students’ Union Café is an ideal place to enjoy a barista coffee, grab a sandwich and meet with friends or colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere.  The Students’ Union Bar serves student friendly food at student friendly prices plus a well stocked bar and a weekly entertainment programme! The Bar has a number of events taking place in the evenings throughout the year; some recent bands that have played at the Bar include Young Guns, The Music and Noah & The Whale. The Students’ Union Shop is perfect for snacks, magazines and newspapers, stationery, hoodies and t-shirts, hot and cold drinks and lots more.

Students’ Union iZone, on the first floor of the Students’ Union building, is a one-stop resource centre for all things to do with student activities.  Here you can find out about sports clubs, societies, volunteering, events and student media including RadioHUDD and the HuddersfieldStudent, our very own student newspaper.

Students’ Union Advice provides students with information and advice on all things related to their life whilst at university from their course and academic issues to housing, finance and safety issues students may face during their time studying here.
