The University of Huddersfield offers students a great range of accommodation options from the basic ‘digs’ to the penthouse suite! Hopefully by now you will have sorted out your accommodation if you are a first year student, but what happens as you move into your second and third years?
Halls of residence could still be an option, however with an increasing number of first year students requiring accommodation, this option is limited and anyway, it’s time to get out on your own and experience a real life flat share with your mates.
If you are interested in finding out more about our halls of residence at either Storthes Hall or Ashenhurst, you can contact our recommended provider, Digs who will be able to update you on any availability.

Storthes Hall Bedroom
If you are moving into your second or third year, you will probably have a good idea about who you would like to live with – the next question is ‘where do I look for a place?’
Once you have decided how many people you are going to live with, you need to start searching and the best place is often online. The following sites are a good starting point for your search and will give you an idea about the cost and type of accommodation out there:
Telephone: 01484 473446, e-mail the Students' Union Advice Centre, or drop in between 10:00am - 4:00pm (closed 1:00pm - 2:00pm).
You will be expected to contact the Agent that is advertising the property and make an appointment to view it. If you like it, you will have to pay a deposit of about one or two months rent, which will be refunded to you when you leave the property, provided that it is still in good condition. You may also be asked for references, but we can help you with that.
It also very important to check whether utility bills (heating, electricity, council tax etc) are included in the rent, as they can be expensive.

Ashenhurst
Students studying at University Campus Barnsley are often thrown in at the deep end and rent a room in their first year as there are no official halls of residence. Some first years do opt to live at Storthes Hall which is around a 30 minute drive away, however most prefer to be located close to campus where there is no need for an early alarm call! There are no direct bus routes from Storthes Hall to Barnsley so if you don’t own a car, the commute can be extremely difficult and not something we would advise.
Barnsley landlords have really embraced the number of students who are moving to Barnsley and more and more of them are buying property to rent out to Barnsley students. They all advertise on www.studentpad.com
So, you may already have experience of house hunting in Barnsley, however if you don’t, the town can offer all types of accommodation from terraced housing to modern flats. So, grab yourself some mates and check out some fantastic place to stay in Barnsley.
