Introduction Back This is a 48 week taught Master course designed to provide for the needs of students who are already graduates in Textile Design and who wish to enhance their knowledge of Computer Aided Design and its role in production and marketing areas of textiles. The course is therefore designed to provide a broad spectrum of opportunities for designers to meet the needs of the textile industry in the next millennium. The Department of Textiles at the University of Huddersfield is ideally placed in terms of staff, equipment and its contacts with all sectors of the textile industry to provide a course for textile design graduates or equivalent which will give them the expertise to be able to utilise modern industrial methods of producing textiles which combine aesthetic acceptability and functional performance. This, in turn, enables graduates from the course to obtain high quality employment within the textile industry. The course addresses these issues using the unique model of integrating design and technology which has been the cornerstone of design courses which have been developed over more than twenty five years in the Department of Textiles. This integration is emphasised by the provision of an optional industrial placement. Course Structure Back Students will take, two 10-credit point and one 20-credit point, taught modules in semesters one and two. There is the opportunity for students to take the option of an 8-week industrial placement between semesters two and three. In semester three, students will undertake an individual Project Semester One Computing & Information Technology For Textile Designers Manufacturing Systems For Textiles CAD/CAM Systems For Textiles
Semester Two Digital Presentation 3D Modelling in Textiles Team Project There is an optional 8-week placement between semester 2 and 3
Semester Three Project The course leads to the award of MSc, but is designed so that students may, if they wish, terminate their studies after obtaining 70 credits in taught modules, with the award of PgDip. Entry Requirements Back The normal entry requirement is a good honours degree (or equivalent) in Textile Design and knowledge of Computer aided Design. Applicants will be expected to attend for interview prior to an offer being made. Overseas applicants, unable to attend interviews, will be expected to provide photographic or other evidence of their fabric design ability. Teaching and Assessment Back The course is taught through practical, lecture, tutorial and seminars, Extensive use of the CAD laboratory will be made, as well as the manufacturing areas. External lectures will be used when required. All modules are assessed, mainly through continuous assessment involving the student's application of the knowledge and skills gained on the course. This will be presented in a variety ways but electronic presentation will be used when suitable. The Project is assessed by means of a dissertation and by a range of fabric designs, if appropriate. Bursaries Back Bursaries of £5,000 plus Fees are available. Course Leader: Dr.R.G.Annable Tel: 01484 4722928 Fax: 01484 472826
