Introduction and Course Aims
The University of Huddersfield and the Yorkshire Coast College, Scarborough, are delighted to announce the launch of a unique collaborative degree in Costume with Textiles.
This is the only dedicated course of its kind outside London and provides access to the rich theatrical, TV, and musical environment that exists in the North of England with its strong world-wide connections.
The Performing Arts, which are central to the cultural identity and vitality of Great Britain, are renowned world-wide for their creativity, preformance, skills, innovation and ambition which are attributes needed to produce quality theatre , shows,operas, ballets, films, video and contemporary dance.
Skills provided by this pathway include; creative thinking, design awareness, cultural, contextual and business knowledge and understanding; communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; knowledge of costume, construction and manufacture; knowledge of textiles and craft technique; knowledge of IT including CAD/CAM.
Years 1 and 2 are based at Scarborough and the Final year at Huddersfield.
No other costume /Textile course in the United Kingdom provides such a balance of knowledge and skills and this should mean that graduates will be in great demand
