Huddersfield researchers have expertise across an impressive range of disciplines and specialities and are known for their commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship and knowledge exchange. Their passion for work at the cutting edge inspires our collaborators and students and wins support from major funders of research in the UK and internationally.

In engineering and the sciences our researchers are contributing to work of fundamental importance to basic science and economic development across areas as diverse as accelerator applications, advanced metrology, nanotechnology, the characterisation of materials, medicinal chemistry, molecular genetics and biopolymer research. In the social sciences our contributions to research and public policy in social work, child protection, crime reduction, mental health and citizenship advance human knowledge in these vitally important domains and deliver significant benefits to quality of life. In the arts and humanities our research is influential in contemporary music, sculpture, modern British history and citizenship, the analysis of language in conflict and the history of healthcare systems and has contributed to significant developments in cultural life, not least in the form of the UK’s largest international festival of new and contemporary music.
