Biology

Introduction

Biology research in the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences has expanded massively in recent years and continues to do so as both the total number of staff and the number of research active staff continues to increase.  New state-of-the-art laboratories have been established, with substantial investment in facilities and equipment.

Research programmes in molecular biology, microbiology and pharmacology are in place, alongside more applied work in hygiene control and food science.  New appointments are currently being made in anthropology which will lead to world-leading work in this area.

Research active staff run their research programmes under the umbrella of the Institute of Materials, Medicines and Molecular Sciences, through which internal funding is allocated and overall policy agreed.
