Studying at Huddersfield has a strong vocational bias. This commercial focus combined with exceptionally strong links with industry probably explains why our postgraduate employment rate is so high. It’s something we pride ourselves on and we’re especially proud of the thriving businesses we’ve also helped to create.
Our teaching is second to none. In fact, Huddersfield was ranked joint first out of all Yorkshire universities for high quality staff and lectures in the Opinion Panel Research survey in 2007. Not bad that, but not entirely surprising given that many of our lecturers and teaching staff have been drawn from industry. To them this is their vocation in life – their passion, not just a job. From precision engineering, IT, social work, music and health-related courses, once you engage with them it will become your passion too and there’s no holding back, it’s just a case of how far you want to go.
Our Enterprise Team has been developed with career progression in mind. It supports start up businesses and individuals to get their big idea off the ground whatever it may be.
Successful postgraduates can earn up to 27% more than their counterparts with only an honours degree.
Postgraduate students account for approximately 3,600 of a total student population of around 24,000 so you’re not on your own. Most study in Huddersfield itself or at our University Campus in Barnsley, we also have students in partner institutions in the UK and abroad.
Talking of not being on your own, our Student Services team are on hand and provide a comprehensive range of support services to help you with your studies and anything ‘studenty’ in general. Just don’t ask them to fix your car.
Huddersfield is an historic town and is a great place to live. It’s one of the friendliest places we know and is lively, multi-cultural, multi-faith, multi-everything really. It’s very much a university town, which will quickly become apparent with almost 10% of the population being students.
