Biography

November 2002 to Present: Senior Lecturer within the School of Human and Health Sciences.

  • Current: Full-time Project Facilitator for the Technology Enhanced Education eLearning Group (TEEE), School eLearning Project Team.
  • 2012 – present: Project Lead for the School of Human and Health Sciences O3 initiative (Online, Off Campus, Out of Hours), to produce a distance learning CPD portfolio.
  • 2011 – 2013: Acute Care Division Lead for Exploring the Creative Use of Technology in Teaching.
  • 2008 – 2011: Course Leader for DipHe Operating Department Practice, and DPS Perioperative Practice.

2001 – 2002: Senior Lecturer, Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Education Department, Defence School of Health Care Studies, University of Central England in Birmingham.

Research & Scholarship

  • Current – Designing a staff development short course in facilitating online learning.
  • 2008 to current - PhD: Determination of the infection risks posed by the use of mobile technology in healthcare settings. This is supported by funding of £25,000 from the SHA and £10,000 from School Innovation Funds.
  • 2012 to current – Lead for the School O3 Project (O3 = Online, Off-campus, Out of hours) – remit to transform some of the current post-professional registration (CPD) portfolio of courses from traditional delivery to distance learning.
  • 2009 to 2012– Joint project lead for development of university PDP smartphone app – evaluated functionality - extended to development and evaluation of bespoke eportfolio. This is supported by funding of £18,000 from University of Huddersfield Learning and Teaching (INSPIRE) funding.
  • 2008 to 2011 – Project Lead for developing a multi-professional online mentor update package for Yorkshire and Humber region – this was for 15 professions from 9 Higher Education Institutions – see publications for details. This was supported by funding of £53,000 from the Yorkshire and Humber SHA.
  • 2006 to 2010 – member of the University of Huddersfield core team for the Assessment of Learning in Practice Settings (ALPS) project (http://www.alpsweb.net/about-alps.asp) – represented the University of Huddersfield on the ALPS IT Management Group, ALPS E-valuation Committee and ALPS Security Group – was also the ODP lead on the implementation and evaluation of using Smartphone technology in the practice assessment of healthcare students.
  • 2006 to 2008 – Developed a multi-professional online mentor update package (for nurses, midwives and ODPs) for the University of Huddersfield – this was supported by £7,000 from School Innovation Funds – this was later bought by the Strategic Health Authority and developed further for regional use (see above).
