Biography

Leanne’s clinical background is within complex wound management in particular in relation to arterial/venous disease.  She currently is employed by Mid Yorks NHS Trust as the Vascular Nurse Specialist where she runs independent clinics for conditions including intermittent claudication, lower limb ulceration and diabetic foot disease.  Her passion includes improvement of patient’s quality of life, management of peripheral arterial disease and the expansion of nurse practitioners/consultants roles.   Additional she is an elected member of the Great Britain Society of vascular Nurses.

Teaching Responsibilities

Leanne is joint module leader for the post registration tissue viability; leg ulcers; wound debridement and minor surgical interventions (dermatology) modules.  She always provides specialised sessions relating to peripheral arterial disease management and care of the lower limb to other disciplines including podiatry.

Completed

Development of an Interactive Web-Based wound care learning and teaching tool.  The development of this tool is in conjunction with podiatry colleagues from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Funding has been received from the Yorkshire and Humber SHA to develop the  package and place it on their E-learning platform to be accessed by all health professionals involved in wound care.

Lead research nurse of SUPER trial comparing traditional angioplasty versus stenting for disease within the superficial femoral artery.

Ongoing:

A pilot study exploring quality of life experienced by patients undergoing negative pressure wound therapy.

Principal investigator for: VenUS IV – national trial comparing hosiery versus compression bandaging for the treatment of venous ulceration.

Principal investigator for; Actico trial – national trail comparing 4-layer bandages systems to 2-layer bandage systems.
