Biography

Dr Donna Youngs is a Research Leader and Associate Director of the International Research Centre for Investigative Psychology (IRCIP). She has researched in the field of Investigative Psychology (IP) for the last ten years, helping shape its development. Her research addresses core IP issues, attempting to establish psychological correlates of offending styles, model criminal differentiation and establish the theoretical bases of offence specialisation. She has recently finalised books on Geographical Offender Profiling and has recently finished the first major text on Investigative Psychology (all with David Canter). Dr Youngs’ keynote address to the European Association of Psychology and Law explored contemporary challenges in Investigative Psychology with particular reference to the complexities inherent within the Canter Offender Profiling (A-C) Equations.

Dr Youngs has provided expert psychological consultancy to the commercial sector on diverse aspects of forensic psychology, criminal psychology and investigative psychology including fraud and the detection of deception, stalking and carjacking. She acts as First Junior to Professor Canter in legal cases relating to expert psychological testimony on offender profiling in court, false rape allegations, entrapment, eyewitness evidence, harassment and forensic psycholinguistics (questioned authorship). Dr Youngs is course director for the MSc Investigative Psychology and runs the IRCIP Doctoral Programme with Professor Canter.
