I took up my current post as Head of Pre-registration Nursing in September 2012 leading the continued innovation and quality enhancement of pre-registration nursing education in the department. I am also the University's official correspondent for the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I sit within the Division of Maternal and Child Health and contribute to the child nursing team.
I joined the University in 2004 after a long career in the NHS working in a variety of settings as a Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. This included 14 years in Primary Care as a Health Visitor and Specialist Nurse for the Homeless, Asylum Seekers and Refugees.
Since joining the University I have had a number of roles, starting out as a Senior Lecturer in Child Nursing, progressing to Head of Division of Child Nursing then Joint Head of Divison of Learning Disability and Child Nursing. I then took up the post of Joint Head of Undergraduate Nursing, leading out on the development of the all-graduate nursing course that was successfully validated in 2012.
Alongside this I held a teaching fellow role as the school lead for service user and carer involvement between 2007 -2010. This involved collaborative work as one of five partner organisations involved with a Higher Education Funding Council for England Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning around Assessment and Learning in Practice Settings (ALPS).
I am undertaking a PhD by portfolio with a series of publications related to service user and carer engagement in health and social care education. I have undertaken and participated in a number of studies pertaining to this subject area. This has included a mixed methods study in relation to what matters to service users and carer in decision making. This work was collaborative and funded by the Assessment and Learning in Practice Settings (ALPS) Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).
I have also undertaken work following a narrative inquiry approach, investigating the impact of service user and carer involvement on service users and cares and student learning and subsequent practice.
