Professor Rakesh Mishra

Prof. Rakesh Mishra joined the School of Computing and Engineering of the University of Huddersfield on 14th December 2000 as a Research Fellow. Prof. Mishra was later appointed as a Lecturer in Sept. 2003, a Senior Lecturer in 2004 and a Reader in 2009. Prof. Mishra was conferred the prestigious title of Professor in summer 2011. Prof. Mishra has previously been an academic in the National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, India and holds his Ph.D. from renowned Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India.

Prof. Mishra’s main teaching area is Thermo-fluids and various modules taught by him include Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics, Automotive Power Units and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Prof. Mishra is the course leader of highly successful IMechE accredited  M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering courses namely, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Design and  Automotive System Design and Analysis. These courses recruit students from all over the world.

Prof. Mishra is an active consultant to many Thermo-fluid industries and has run a number of knowledge transfer partnerships successfully. Prof. Mishra is very active in renewable energy research and is involved with many organizations including SETPOINT and EngToxNet to promote green technologies. Prof. Mishra heads the Energy Emissions and the Environment (E3) research group within the Diagnostics research centre at the University. Prof. Mishra is also on the executive board of the European Federation of Automotive and Transportation Universities (with 30+ European HEIs), which aims to improve automotive education in Europe and promote green technologies. Prof. Mishra is also a member the Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Power Society of India which promotes effective use of fluid power in developing economies. Prof. Mishra has published more than 120 papers in various journals and conference proceedings of repute and has been invited to give key note lectures in various conferences. Prof. Mishra has also chaired a number of conference sessions dealing with green issues.

Prof. Mishra specialises in Thermo-fluids subject area and his research interests are renewable energy, computational fluid dynamics, multiphase flow, instrumentation, aerodynamics and automotive brake cooling. He has published more than 120 research papers in top journals and conferences in the above areas. Prof. Mishra has received the best paper award for the research paper entitled  ‘Flow characteristics of diverging-converging bends using CFD’  by the Institution of Engineers in year 2002.

Prof. Mishra  is a reviewer for EPSRC research proposals. Prof. Mishra is also a reviewer to many top journals in his field namely Journal of Physics, Measurement science and Technology, International Journal of Micromechanics and Micro-engineering (All Institution of Physics journals) and Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Part D Journal of Automobile Engineering, Part G Journal of Aerospace Engineering and Part J Journal of Engineering Tribology. The other journals that Prof. Mishra serves as a reviewer are Particulate Science and Technology and Engineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics. Prof. Mishra is also an editorial board member for International Journal of vehicular technology.  Prof. Mishra has a keen interest in pedagogic research as well and has a number of publications in this area. Prof. Mishra has acted as an associate editor as well as a reviewer to the International Journal of Learning. Prof. Mishra has successfully supervised several Ph.D., M.Phil and M.Sc. (Research) students and currently supervises a number of students for Ph.D, M.Phil and MSc (Research) degrees.
