Biography

BSc from Bristol University, MSc from Manchester University, PhD from UMIST. Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Measurement and Control, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Former member of Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Ten years industrial experience in an engineering research environment, 4 patents for flow measurement instrumentation systems (at Schlumberger Cambridge Research Ltd and Thorn EMI). Experienced in the development of measurement and instrumentation systems to the production stage.

Over 65 refereed publications in the field of flow measurement and multiphase flow instrumentation.

Fifteen years academic experience. Principal Investigator on over 20 major publicly and privately funded research projects (principally in the field of multiphase flow measurement) at the University of Huddersfield in collaboration both with major companies and other universities (Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and Newcastle). Principal Investigator on 5 EPSRC funded research projects and Co-investigator on one additional EPSRC funded research project. Current member of EPSRC Peer Review Group.

Currently Professor of Process Measurement and Course Leader for the MSc in Engineering Control Systems and Instrumentation.

  • Single and multiphase fluid dynamics. Single and multiphase flow measurement instrumentation.
  • 20 refereed journal papers; 25 refereed international conference papers; Over 20 other conference papers, consultancy reports and internal company research reports. 1 book contribution; 4 patents.
  • Whilst at Huddersfield I have obtained £2.2 million in external funding for 21 projects.
