Chris started out as a secondary school teacher, working in Surrey, Spain, the UAE and Brunei. He moved into teacher education when studying at Exeter University in 1996 and later worked for Leeds University as a tutor in Oman on the BA (Hons) Educational Studies. In his role as a teacher educator he became particularly interested in the skills that the students require for successful study at University. Chris has worked as an Academic Skills Tutor in the University of Huddersfield since 2002.
Chris gained a first degree in Economics from Kingston Polytechnic and a PGCE in Economics and Social Studies from Thames Polytechnic in the 1980s. He later studied for a Master of Education at Exeter University for which he was awarded a distinction.
He is a member of the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
As a senior lecturer in Academic Skills in the Business School’s Learning Development Group, Chris works with both students and academics in supporting the development of study skills. In this role he has helped colleagues integrate approaches in areas such as academic writing development and assessment as well as providing study skills tuition to students directly.
Chris is a member of the Business Education Research Group and is currently leading on a project which is focused on the development of audio-visual assessment feedback on written assignments.
