Eileens background is in journalism and PR, and shes a freelance journalist and PR consultant.
She worked as a journalist and sub-editor with the Yorkshire Post and several other regional papers including the Hull Daily Mail and the Lancashire Evening Post.
Eileen is a former editor of Northside magazine, and has also worked in the Netherlands for the English-language magazine, Holland Herald. She has experience of freelance and consultancy public relations, and is an associate member of the CIPR.
She has taught in both further and higher education, and helped establish the PR degree at Huddersfield.
Eileen is the author of a biography of Neil Kinnock (Robert Hale, 1994), and co-author of several regional guidebooks.
She studied at Hull University and the Open University, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She holds the National Council for the Training of Journalists proficiency certificate, and the PCET Certificate of Education (Huddersfield University), and has a Master's degree in Professional Development in Higher Education.

2010 ongoing: Collaborative research into media awareness and media training with the Rathbone charity.
2010 ongoing: GP Practice management and media relationships. A CVF-funded project to examine public relations practice in the NHS.

Eileen is keen to supervise/co-supervise projects at MA level which would contribute to the proposed Centre for Research in Public and Voluntary Sector PR and Communications. Of particular interest are those research students who wish to develop expertise in education media relations management, and work with the departments network of school head teachers and managers.
