Biography

I have been a nurse (RGN) since 1982 and a Children’s Nurse (RSCN) since 1995, working mainly in acute paediatrics. I have also been a Practice Development Sister and Children’s Pain Management Sister.

I began employment in the University as a Senior Lecturer in June 2006.

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

I have been a course leader for the DipHE/ BSc Child Nursing Course since since September 2008. I am also Route Leader for the BSc(Hons) Professional Studies - Child and Young Person Route course. I am 3rd year leader for child branch students. I am exams officer for child branch. I am on the School Board. I lead on pre- and post registration modules:

  • HIN 1054 - Practice Module
  • HIN 1052/ HHN 1022 - Practice module
  • HIN 1053/ HHN 1023- Practice Module
  • HMN 2002 - Care of the Acutely Ill Child/Young person in a variety of settings

I am associate to the following modules:

  • HIN 1056 - Nursing Concepts and Evidence based practice
  • HIN 1037 - Caring for children and families in hospital
  • HIN 1050/ HHN 1020 - Critical and Complex Care Needs of children

I have taught the following in Malaysia on the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Lincoln College):

  • HHN 1234 - Research-based project

I am currently supervising MSc and BSc students with their final year projects/dissertations.

Research & Scholarship

My qualifications include- FHEA, RGN, ONC, RSCN, BHSc (Hons) PG Dip Health Professional Education, Recorded teaching qualification with the NMC.

I am currently undertaking the Professional Doctorate, which began in September 2008. I am proposing to undertake research into the involvement of parents in their child’s pain management in acute hospital areas. This will be a qualitative, ethnographic study, looking at pain management within the culture of family centred care in acute care areas.

  • I am a member of the Centre for Applied Childhood Studies.
  • I am a European Paediatric Life Support (EPLS) Instructor
