Biography

David Warnock-Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Air Transport and a core member of the University’s Transport Aviation, Logistics and Supply Chain (TALoS) research group. He is also Course Leader for the BSc programme in Air Transport and Logistics Management.

After completing a PhD at Cranfield University (UK), on the socio-economic impacts of air transport in small island states, he currently investigates the producer and consumer effects of a variety of air policy frameworks as well as the micro and macroeconomic factors affecting the aviation industry in today’s deregulated environments.

David has a first degree in International Transport (BSc) from Cardiff University (UK) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Spanish language at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica. He has a professional background in the public transport (Network Rail), air transport (Handling Services) and tourism (Accommodation Provider) sectors and has conducted a variety of Aviation and Transport related consultancy projects for international clients. David has also recently provided bespoke training courses for industry partners including the Arab Air Carriers Organisation, Etihad Airways and Oman Airports Managemment Company (OAMC).

He is a Visiting Lecturer on the MBA Aviation Management programme in Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and between January and October 2014 was Associate Professor in Aviation at the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) in Oman. David regularly reviews academic journal papers, sits on various research and course validation panels, and acts as external examiner for Aviation programmes at Bucks New University (UK).

He enjoys teaching and supervising undergraduates and postgraduates across a range of aviation, passenger transport and tourism related modules and dissertations.

  • Developments in airline ancillary revenues
  • The extent to which air policy liberalisation can induce consumer, producer and welfare benefits
  • Regional developments in Caribbean, African, Middle-Eastern and Latin American air transport markets
