About Oldham

Investing in your facilities

The University Campus is spread across two buildings: Central UCO and University Studios. Our campus reflects a modern learning environment with a culture structured around supporting your success.

The campus itself is located within walking distance of the town centre. £5.5 million has been invested, with the help of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, in recent years to ensure that our facilities are the best available.

From August 2012 courses at the Oldham campus will be run by The Oldham College, who will also be offering a range of new programmes. All these programmes will be validated by the University, and will lead to a University of Huddersfield award.

The town of Oldham

Dynamic arts and entertainment calendar. Fantastic mix of contemporary and market shopping. Access to beautiful countryside, wooded valleys and famous canals. Rose to prominence as a result of being at the heart of the textile industry in the 19th Century. Where do you think we are talking about? Not Manchester, but Oldham.

This thriving community may benefit from its close proximity to Manchester but it is a busy and thriving town that offers the very best in entertainment, lifestyle and retail. The dynamic mill buildings reflect its historic prominence as one of the single most productive cotton spinning mill towns in the world.

To live and study in Oldham is to have at your fingertips an excellent mix of arts and culture from Gallery Oldham in the new Cultural Quarter to The Coliseum Theatre, a nationally recognised venue. The Gallery’s changing exhibition programme features artworks and items from the Art, Social History and Natural History Collections, work by local artists, and contemporary and international art. The Coliseum Theatre’s varied productions offer a wealth of interesting and exciting performances.

If you need some retail therapy, then there are two contemporary shopping malls as well a traditional outdoor market and the lively Tommyfield Market Hall. There is also a multitude of bars, cafés and pubs – good to refresh yourself after a stimulating day’s shopping or, in combination with some great clubs, the ingredients for a fantastic night out.

A lively music scene from traditional brass bands to the latest up and coming bands, both local and national, is alive and well in Oldham. There is even some pedigree for local talent as the band Inspiral Carpets came from Oldham!

Top all this off with a wide range of places to eat, from snacks to traditional pubs to great restaurants and you’ll find that Oldham is so much more than somewhere that’s “close to Manchester”.
