We regret that we cannot consider any new applications for September 2008 except from students who are already in the UK, for whom there are unlikely to be any academic conditions, and who are applying through one of our agents.
Please remember that many of our postgraduate courses have a second intake in January or February, and we welcome applications for these programmes. We will also be glad to consider undergraduate applications for September 2009. If you have any queries please email the International Office.
The International Office at the University of Huddersfield processes all international applications apart from those for the International Foundation Year.
This means that we are able to track your application through the University admissions system. We aim to provide an efficient service tailored to your needs. We know the importance of a swift decision and prompt provision of documentation.
We try to make the application process as simple as we can for you.
We will need to know about your previous studies and your English language qualifications.
| If you have already completed your studies, you just need to apply to us and send copies of your certificates. The Course Tutor will assess your application and should be able to make you an Unconditional Offer*. | If you have not completed your studies, apply to us now and the Course Tutor will asses your application and make a Conditional Offer. When you complete your studies, just send us copies of your certificates and we should then be able to make you an Unconditional Offer. |
| Once you have paid a deposit on your tuition fees we will then send you a Visa Support Letter which will enable you to obtain a visa for study in the UK. We will then book accommodation for you and arrange a taxi to collect you from Manchester Airport (only 30 minutes). | |
*Please note that an unconditional offer can be made for the course but there may be non-academic conditions that may need to be met.
Once you have decided what course you want to apply for, you can apply in one of three ways.
(i) Complete our On-line Application Form
You will need to complete all of the required fields and upload scanned copies of your certificates for qualifications that you have already completed, so please make sure that you have all of this information available before you begin to complete the form. If you are applying for an arts course, for example music or graphics, you must also upload electronic copies of your work for the course tutor to assess.
(ii) Download our application form and post, fax or email it back to us.
Download our application form in Word or pdf format and complete it. We will also need to see copies of your certificates for qualifications that you have already completed.

iii) Apply through UCAS
For undergraduate courses you can apply on-line through the UCAS system used by most UK students.
You will have to register with UCAS and pay a small sum by credit card, then complete your application on-line. Your details will be transferred to the University electronically following which we will process your application and write to you with an offer.
Most of our students are 18 years old at entry to the University but we welcome students of any age with qualifications and/or experience at an appropriate level for them to undertake their proposed course of study. Applications will be assessed on a case by case basis having regard, amongst other things, to requirements imposed by professional bodies and the vulnerability of the prospective student in a higher education environment.
Application Form
Students wanting to follow any of the following courses will need ATAS clearance prior to applying for a visa. Details of this can be found on the ATAS web pages and students holding an offer letter will receive further details.
Applicants to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University are expected to demonstrate English Language ability at a level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 (TOEFL 550 or 213 Computer Based).
Full details of all our requirements
The University requires applicants from outside the EU to submit a deposit against tuition fees as a condition of their offers. The amount of the deposit may vary from country to country, but will be indicated clearly on initial offer letters issued by the University.
Please note that visa support documentation will not be issued until the required deposit has been received and cleared.
We believe that the deposit scheme assists genuine applicants to demonstrate to the British Embassy or High Commission that they are bona fide students, whose only intention of seeking entry to the UK is to follow a full-time course of study at the University of Huddersfield.
The University recommends that you apply through one of our local representatives in your country to ensure your application runs smoothly.
Payment may be made by electronic transfer, bankers draft (demand draft), cheque drawn on a UK bank account, debit card, credit card, or cash (the latter method is recommended only when a relative, friend or other reliable contact in the UK can personally supervise the transaction by visiting the University. Under no circumstances should cash be mailed to the University).
In the case of payments made by credit card, we ask applicants to note that the clearance period can be lengthy and it may take six months or longer before the release of visa support letters can be authorised. We would suggest that you use another means of payment if you do not wish your documentation to be delayed.
Please note that by accepting the offer of a place you are agreeing to the conditions of the University’s deposit scheme.
You are strongly recommended not to attempt to make payment by fraudulent means as we will not hesitate to take appropriate action against applicants where there is evidence of deception.
In turn, the University undertakes to ensure that all paperwork is issued promptly to enable applicants to commence the process of obtaining a student visa.
Should you have a visa enquiry or would like information on visa extentions, please contact the Student Welfare Advisor. You can also visit the UKvisas website for full UK Visa information.
We strongly advise you to read through all the information available in the Prospectus, as some courses do not admit overseas candidates.
