The vision of the Machinery Condition and Performance Monitoring Research Group is to undertake applied research and development with the aim of advancing the scope and the sensitivity of machinery fault detection and diagnosis, performance and emissions monitoring.
The philosophy of the Group is to use routine instrumentation where possible, applying sophisticated signal processing and developing non‐intrusive on‐line techniques to achieve cost effective monitoring techniques. The focus is upon incipient faults, with the underlying objective of predicting future machine behaviour.
Group members work on plant of all types, including compressors (axial, centrifugal, reciprocating), pumps, turbines (gas, steam), gear drives, motor drives, engines (diesel, gas), sealing systems (static and dynamic), couplings, reactor vessels, pipe- work systems, surface vessels and onboard equipment.
