Guidance on Applying
This section contains information which is intended to help prospective applicants for vacancies advertised by the University.
In order to ensure equal treatment of all applications for employment we use a standard form for completion by all applicants. This will be issued, together with a job description and further particulars. Applicants who wish to submit a CV may do so in addition to completing the form.
In order to monitor its Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and comply with the Code of Practice on Equal Opportunities and Diversity the University asks all applicants to complete a confidential assessment form.
Completing The Application Form
The University aims to ensure that each applicant for a post is treated fairly. The application form is designed to facilitate this aim. The same questions are asked of all applicants and this means that even if you are already employed by the University you must complete the application form in full.
The information you provide on the application form will determine whether or not you are shortlisted for the post and will form the basis for the interview. It is therefore very important that you complete it as effectively as possible. These notes are designed to help you do this.
- Please complete the form in black ink, ball point pen or typescript and use additional sheets if necessary.
- Make sure that you have carefully read the advertisement, job description and any further particulars which have been provided. It will be necessary for you to show in your application any which are stated as essential requirements.
- If you submit a CV it must be in addition to your completed application.
- Teaching and professional staff should include details of relevant publications, research or consultancy and are invited to describe any innovations made in teaching, education or other professional fields.
- Schools and college leavers should include details of any positions of responsibility they have held.
Any additional information you provide should be written in a concise and well organised manner. Please make full use of the last page of the form and do not simply repeat your current duties. Pick out skills, knowledge and experience required by the job and provide evidence that you possess them. These may have been gained through employment, through Community or Voluntary work, gained in the home or through leisure interests. The most important thing is to tell us about them. We are unable to guess or make assumptions.
The Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form should be completed and returned with your application form. The information contained on this form will not be supplied to those involved in the shortlisting process and will only be used to monitor and develop the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy. This is very important to us and we appreciate your full co-operation in providing the details requested.
