The National Postgraduate Committee

The National Postgraduate Committee is a charity to advance, in the public interest, postgraduate education in the UK. It is made up of postgraduate student representatives from educational institutions with postgraduate students. The NPC aims to promote the interests of postgraduates studying in the UK, while remaining politically non-aligned. The Committee holds an annual conference, and publishes various guidelines and codes of practice. The websites contains a lot of useful information for postgraduate researchers.


Vitae is a national organisation championing the personal, professional and career development of doctoral researchers and research staff in higher education institutions and research institutes. The website contains a wealth of information and some excellent links for research resources for ALL researchers.

Graduate Junction

Graduate Junction aims to break down the barriers which exist between disciplines, providing access to previously unexplored opportunities. With more than 12,000 researchers in 70 countries already engaged in the network, Graduate Junction is a rapidly growing online research community. It is a worldwide community designed by postgraduate researchers who recognised the need for on-line networking. As well as discussion, advice and group forums, there are also some interesting features include literature searches and graduate journals.

Beyond the PhD

Although this website is described as "A career resource for Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers" Beyond the PhD contains lots of information for all stages of researcher study in all disciplines. For example, audio clips relating to dyslexia, stress, mature students and families, teaching, networking.

Writing Across Boundaries

The Writing Across Boundaries website is dedicated to the support of social science researchers who wish to engage more effectively with the practical and intellectual issues that arise in the quest to produce texts which are engaging, accurate and analytically insightful. 


UK resource centre is the Government’s lead organisation for the provision of advice, services and policy consultation regarding the under-representation of women in science, engineering, technology and the built environment (SET).

This series of leaflets is available to download free of charge in Adobe Acrobat format. They offes practical advice to international students who have chosen to return to their home country to look for work. Each country guide includes key facts about current trends and jobs, advice about seeking employment, hints and tips for making a successful application, and helpful information sources.

There are profiles for Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Russia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and the USA.

The series was produced with funding from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) under the Prime Minister’s Initiative for International Education (PMI2).
