Our science courses provide postgraduate education in the following:
These courses will provide you with the most comprehensive overview of the recent technological developments and applications in analytical science. Analytical science is the application of analytical techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography and electrophoreses to study biological, chemical and pharmaceutical problems. These are important in many areas such as drug discovery, treatment for cancer, inherited disorders and the analysis of DNA, organic compounds, metals and solids.
The Nutrition and Food Sciences course gives you a comprehension of food technology, an understanding of food science, an appreciation of food safety and an insight into postgraduate research methodology.
Pharmaceutical and Analytical Science involves the testing of drug substances and the formulation of pharmaceutical drugs as they are utilised.
Forensic science involves the application of scientific techniques to criminal and civil legal cases. We have designed the course to train you in the relevant scientific methodology relating to forensic and analytical science.
There is the opportunity to study specialised modules on each of the postgraduate science courses; the teaching will consist of two thirds taught material and one third research project. Emphasis is also placed on the development of key skills which are transferable into the workplace.
It’s an exciting time to be a scientist with many potential career openings and we are very proud of the achievements of our graduates. At the University of Huddersfield we have a reputation for producing graduates who are ready for careers with high calibre science employers and research institutions, or for further study on PhD programmes.
Research at the University of Huddersfield is thriving and expanding. You will get the opportunity to get involved in pure analytical science as well as other research projects that involve the application of analytical science.
Recent graduates from our science courses are employed in industry, in hospitals, quality control and quality assurance, in the pharmaceutical and food industries as well as in research positions and in educational establishments.
