Engineers are vital in ensuring the world’s future, in finding original ways to address global issues such as energy consumption, transport demand and population growth.  Engineers are problem solvers; they plan, design and develop products to create a brighter and better future for everyone, developing a variety of equipment from precision tools to washing machines and smartphones to aircraft. There are few professions as stimulating and rewarding as engineering.

Things work and, when they do, good stuff happens.  Clean water, reliable energy, safe transport, fast communications, life-saving medical equipment and food in the shops - all rely on engineering solutions that make the world a safer, more comfortable and exciting place to be.  As well as making our lives easier, key developments such as advanced engineering, green technologies and innovation in manufacturing play an ever increasing role in the world economy. Engineering is at the heart of industry and engineers who know how to innovate are highly sought after, there is no doubt that this is a growth area and technologically skilled specialists are in high demand.

An accredited degree in mechanical, automotive or electronics engineering from the University of Huddersfield is the first step on a path that could see you becoming a professional engineer, with the knowledge and skills to help you make a difference in an increasingly technological world. Our exciting undergraduate courses provide you with the knowledge and skills to design, analyse and manufacture sophisticated technologies or products for the widest range of industries throughout the industrial, automotive and commercial sectors.  Better still, all our BEng and MEng courses are recognised through accreditation from the professional institutions the IMechE or the IET - and contribute towards satisfying the requirements for Chartered Engineer status.

Engineering at the University of Huddersfield had a 96.6% record of graduates finding employment or going on to further study within six months of graduation during 2009/10.

Your career success is our priority and that’s why all our undergraduate engineering courses offer an optional one year paid work placement, invaluable for providing you with the employability factor.   In addition, you might also get the opportunity to take part in the Formula Student competition and gain real world experience in designing and manufacturing a single seat racing cars to compete with other students from all around the world to design a racing car from conception to completion.

Our graduates go on to enjoy a wide spectrum of careers in an expanding range of international industries: power generation, medical, automotive, machine tools, aviation, marine, mining, agriculture, sport and chemical. Others have become research scientists or control engineers, or have gone on to careers in operations management or the foods and consumer products sectors. 

Our recent graduates are now working in prestigious companies such as Airedale International, Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, Kodak, BP, Cummins Group, Renault Gears, Toyota and Rolls-Royce.
